20th September in Ireland

Today we had very few Erasmus students at school because many of them were at a farmers' festival called ploughing championships. There were also a lot of Irish students missing and the school was noticeably short of people. First thing in the morning I had physics, which was the last class I was  the day before. We did two experiments. One of radiation and the other of convection and other of radiation.  For the radiation experiment we needed three water bottles, one each of silver, black and white, a water heater and three thermometers.  That evening we went back to Charleville and had dinner at the grandparents' house. Later we went for a walk with Lola the family dog there and in the evening we were watching typical TV programmes from there. They showed me a programme in which they spoke Irish with a strong accent and I didn't understand it very well.

The school in Ireland

In Ireland there are many differences in the classes compared to those in Spain. For that reason I wanted to dedicate a section in this blog because in my opinion it is very interesting. The course I did was very different from what we do in Spain. It is called transition year and it is a year in which a lot of work is done. They don't have any work or homework. All the students had to have an iPad to do the different class activities because they were working a lot with PowerPoint kahoot and stuff like that. About the subjects they have some like the ones we have in Spain but another are different.   For example, they have a cooking class twice a week. One day they teach them the recipe and the second day they make it. Another thing that caught my attention was that lunchtime was at the school and they ate there.

In the school today I had done lot of things. In the musical we had learned a new dance. I was a little bit upset because it's our last day of musical.  The next class was coaching studies, my type of class is sewing class. My friend and I were helping some students with their project. I made pompoms of wool for the skirt of the work of one group. In Spanish class we translated tipycal Spanish expressions with food. And it was very funny because the Irish read it to practice their Spanish and then we had to told their what's the meaning but in English and the translation too. Applied math was the last class of the day. We were working mathematical networks and graphs. To do the exercises we had done you have to use Prim's algorithm and matrices.  After school I took the school bus to came back home with a friend. We were walking around my village and at six o'clock we got a bus to kilmallock.  In kilmallock we went to theatre to watch a show of typical music and dan...

Strange to say, but today was my first Tuesday at school in Ireland. The first three hours were really strange,  but amazing at the same time because we did lot of things here. Of those first three hours, the first was a self-defence class. In it we have learned how to defend ourselves in a fight and some Japanese martial arts. At the second hour, We have taught first aid, we have learnt CPR to know what to do in case a person has had an accident. A fourth and this hour I have had home economics. In the first class of this subject we have been talking about the typical food in Germany and some traditions they had. In the other class of home economics I cooked an strange  cookies. They were delicious.  https://youtube.com/shorts/BI5Mju5wXAc?si=3rYAcLNmwbty2bwk  (video of cooking class)  The last class of the day was physics. We were studying the convection, conduction and radiation. To test these theories, we conducted experiments. I got to do the condu...

limerick excursion

Saturday, September 9th was our first Erasmus excursion. We went to a nearby city called Limerick. We went by bus and it takes half an hour to get there from kilfinane. The first thing we did there was to go to a place called the milk market. It is a very big building with stalls of all kinds. Food, souvenirs, clothes.... We also strolled through the streets of Limerick until we reached the side of the river. The views were very nice. The weather was very nice that day and the castle on the other side of the river looked great. At about half past twelve we caught the bus again and were taken to a shopping center on the outskirts. We ate at a McDonald's and then browsed the stores in the mall. My favorite was Tesco. It was a very large supermarket that had everything you could imagine. In the afternoon we went to watch a game of a very rare sport called hurling. The match was killmalock vs. bruff. In the end killmalock won the match 38 -31.

At that class the boys and girls were making costumes with reusable materials.  At the third we had had spanish class.  The spanish teachers had prepared a hunt for us to discoverd the village of Kilfinane. The fourth class was tutorial and we presented our selves to the Irish students. And teacher told us what excursions are we going to do in our stance in Ireland.  The last class of the day was applied maths and there we studied  networks.     These day I stayed in the in the pitch with all the Erasmus students and we have been playing football, listening to music and having fun.  When I got back home I called my Spanish family. After I had dinner with my Irish family and we watched a film too.

Today it was my first day of school in Ireland. Yesterday we arrived at kilfinane at eleven o'clock at night.  I was a bit tired after having been traveling all day long.  My first day was a little strange. I didn't know what to do or where to go. But my exchange partner helped me a lot to know the classes where I had to go. With her help it was much easier. In the afternoon, after school we went to the village where I lived in this exchange. It's called Charleville. It is one of the largest towns in the area and has all kinds of stores.  My house in Ireland. My dinner the first day it had lots of different things. And this was my first day in Ireland. A little bit weird because I had to adapt to new school and meal times. But I think I'm going to have a great time in this experience.
